The christmas season is widely regarded as the most joyous and eventful time of the year. Since ’tis the season of giving and gathering with loved ones, it’s only fitting that we do so. Perhaps now would be an ideal time to erect a DIY Godzilla Christmas tree in your holiday home.
This is not a joke: it is a homemade Christmas tree in the likeness of Godzilla, the colossal prehistoric sea monster that is unleashed and supercharged by nuclear radiation, wreaking havoc on everything in its path. Also, it seems to exhale smoke instead of air. What a fantastic take on the traditional Christmas tree!
This fantastic Christmas tree concept was created by a New Zealand floatplane pilot by the name of Steven Newland, who is 36 years old. Treezilla is a Christmas tree with a unique appearance and texture, inspired by the legendary monster Godzilla. Aside from the physical dimensions, of course.

His 4-year-old nephew, who loves dinosaurs, gave him the idea for the decoration. “I thought I could do a dinosaur tree, but why stop there?” said Steven Newland. “It would be amazing if it could also breathe smoke.
A few common household items were used to make the impressive Treezilla: 10 meters of chicken wire, a weed mat, plastic teeth, paper claws, Christmas lights, some tree ornaments, and four different firs. It came with a fog machine that can be controlled from a distance and refilled with fog machine fluid.
The tree is about 1.8 meters tall, which is a little bit taller than the average person. So, it might not be as big as the real Godzilla monster, but the kids might think it is.
After a while, the Treezilla was sold at auction, with some of the money going to charity
After putting it away for about a year, Newland decided to sell it online. After 34 bids, he sold Treezilla on TradeMe for $415, which was the highest price (roughly 270 US dollars). He set a reserve of $250, so everything over that went to the Canteen children’s charity, which helps young cancer patients.

It’s hardly the first unconventional Christmas tree in Newland. He previously created strange half-and-half Portal inspired Christmas trees as well as Pac Man arcade themed Christmas trees.
