This accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by a thirteen-year-old graduate in 2020.

Hung’s inspiration came from the previous record holder, and he expressed surprise at surpassing him, stating, “I also wanted to be the youngest graduate. I didn’t expect to beat him.”

With five degrees under his belt and a sixth on the way, Hung is aiming for a career in aeronautical engineering, aviation, or pediatrics. Image Credit: KTLA 5

Recognizing her son’s exceptional abilities, Hung’s mother, Song Choi, withdrew him from public school in 2020 and enrolled him in college. She shared wise words with him, quoting Steve Jobs: “Stay hungry, stay foolish and one more – always be humble to learn.”

Despite the demanding workload that comes with being a child prodigy, Hung still manages to enjoy typical activities of a preteen boy. He actively participates in basketball, plays games like Minecraft and Roblox, and is involved in Civil Air Patrol and Boy Scouting. He also finds time to pursue his passion for travel, having recently visited the Middle East to explore its rich history.

Hung, who already holds five degrees and is pursuing a sixth, has aspirations to work in aerospace engineering, aviation, or pediatrics. Lisa McPherson, the Director of Campus Communications at Fullerton College, explained that the college has a special process called “special admit” that allows students in grades K through eight to enroll.

Hung plans to continue his education with post-graduate studies in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for another year. Subsequently, he intends to pursue a master’s degree and eventually a PhD at a university, all by the time he turns eighteen.

It is worth noting that despite these remarkable achievements, Hung will still not be of legal age to have a drink in the United States to celebrate his hard work.
